There appears to be no detailed analysis of this species, but its active principle, which has been called Passiflorine, has very similar sedating effects to other well-known alkaloids. The leaves amd stems give a nontoxic, non-addictive sedative with no known side effects. Passion flower has a calming effect on the central nervous system. It is also good for digestion and helps prevent rapid heartbeats. Has been used for insomnia, anxiety, depression, nervous tension, and many other medicinal effects outlined in the full details page. Makes a GREAT tea no matter the time of day. NOTE: This herb is VERY woody, but that is the active part of the plant as well.
