Valerian Root Whole Root

View Valerian Root Whole Root in more detail >>

This beautiful plant is used so much in the manufacturing of various herbal products, that the roots are automatically ground to a powder at the farms. Many of the most active volatile oils evaporate, and it is left far less active than when the roots are left intact.

We have contracted with a grower to provide us with whole roots, and as a calming herb, we have never known this plant to be so effective and it's reputation as a sleep aid and calming agent is now obvious.*

Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a hardy perennial flowering plant, with heads of sweetly scented pink or white flowers. Valerian has a long history of use in herbal medicine as a sedative, and it is an effective calmer when restless from any difficult meditative experience. It is a safe, non–addictive relaxant that may help reduces nervous tension and anxiety and promote restful sleep. Valerian root contains many constituents, including essential oils that appear to contribute to the herb's sedating qualities. Contemporary clinical studies have demonstrated that Valerian may help improve sleep quality without morning grogginess.*
